Avatar: The Last Airbender Is Coming to Roblox Through New Creator Fund
Roblox has renamed and updated its “Game Fund” program.
In 2021, Roblox launched Game Fund, a partnership program that allowed approved developers to receive funding to bring their projects to life on the Roblox platform.
Now in 2024, the Game Fund program has been renamed to “Creator Fund,” with the program being updated to also accept different kinds of content, rather than being focused on game-based experiences.
Matt Curtis, vice president of developer relations at Roblox, told Fast Company:
“We’re excited to announce that, with this evolution, Roblox is expanding the types of content funded by the program, bringing new opportunities for Roblox’s network of creators across the globe. Our Creator Fund allows even more creators and IP holders to join the program while still staying true to its original mission of empowering creators who want to build something that has never existed before.”
On the Roblox blog, Curtis referenced two new Roblox experiences that are part of the updated Creator Fund.
The first is an experience inspired by the popular television franchise Avatar: The Last Airbender. According to ComingSoon, the experience will hit Roblox in summer 2024 and will allow players to create their own character and compete in “battleground-style gameplay.”
The second new experience is Clip It, a short-form video creator that’s similar to TikTok, which allows Roblox users to create and share videos starring their Roblox avatars. Clip It is a great example of the varied content that’s now eligible to receive funding from the Creator Fund, since Clip It is a social experience, rather than a game.
Developers accepted into the Creator Fund will receive a minimum of $500,000 in funding for their project. Creators can view the program’s eligibility requirements and submit their applications here.
