Clarks Shoe Company Uses Roblox to Drive Sales of Real-World Footwear
The retailer sells shoes inspired by the main characters in the gameplay experience.
As reported by Pocket Gamer, British shoe company Clarks released an update for its PlayPrints Simulator Roblox experience, which now allows users to team up with virtual characters to defeat a monster known as the Great Green Devourer.
Developed by Super League, PlayPrints Simulator lets players collect a variety of companion characters who can be used to attack monsters across five in-game environments. Players will receive vines as enemies are defeated, which they can spend on mystery eggs containing more companion characters.
Each companion has a different strength, and as players collect stronger and stronger helpers, they’ll be able to defeat monsters faster than before, allowing them to earn even more vines and keep the gameplay loop moving forward. Players can also work together with other real players to defeat stronger monsters, including the Great Green Devourer.
Tying the Roblox experience to the real-world, Clarks offers footwear inspired by the four main characters in the PlayPrints Simulator experience: Emse (an “Aqua Alicorn”), Maple (a fairy), Clowder (a cheetah), and Rex (a tyrannosaurus Rex). For instance, the “Clowder Sprint” sneakers feature a large cat paw print on the sole, while the “Foxing Roar” high-tops feature a dinosaur print and dinosaur “spikes” on the heels.
Players can collect virtual versions of these real-world shoes throughout the Roblox experience to unlock temporary gameplay bonuses, such as a boost to their companions’ attack strength.
Clarks is one of many clothing and accessory brands using Roblox to reach existing and potential customers. For instance, Hugo Boss recently debuted a Roblox world promoting its new Hugo Blue denim and streetwear collection, and Pacsun brought a virtual version of musician Slick Rick to its Roblox world while also launching a real-world clothing collection inspired by the artist.
