Griefville: Survive the Nightmare Is a Mature Roblox Game Featuring Chucky for a Limited Time
RocketRide Games partnered with Universal to create a Roblox experience inspired by classic horror films.
While the average Roblox user is under 16, developer RocketRide Games is targeting older players with its new Roblox experience, created in partnership with Universal Products & Experiences.
Griefville: Survive the Nightmare is a mature Roblox experience inspired by horror films from the 1980s and 90s that challenges players to collect resources, defeat enemies, and try a variety of rotating gameplay modes in an effort to “survive the night.”
The Griefville experience drops players into a town of the same name, which is full of gravestones, ghosts, and other horror-themed imagery. Players are equipped with a nail gun and knife and have a limited amount of ammo and health. Players can collect additional ammo, healing items, and other resources as they play.
While the experience allows players to complete quests and collect resources within Griefville itself, players are also encouraged to enter “nightmares” that become available every few minutes. Each nightmare contains a mini-game for players to participate in to receive virtual rewards. For instance, one nightmare challenges players to race through an obstacle course, while another challenges players to work together to defeat waves of enemies.
For a limited time, players can also participate in a nightmare starring the evil doll Chucky from the Child’s Play film series. Once players enter the Chuckly nightmare, one player in the group will become the killer doll who is then challenged to kill the other players.
While Chucky will only appear in Griefville for a limited time, in a press release, RocketRide and Universal said content inspired by other horror films will be added to the experience “on a rotating basis” going forward.
In addition, the experience features a number of item previews for digital content users will be able to purchase in the future.
In a press release, Louis-Rene Auclair, CEO of RocketRide Games, commented on the Griefville experience:
“With Griefville: Survive the Nightmare, we wanted to create an experience that taps into the shared cultural touchstone of 80s and 90s horror for older Roblox users. It’s not just about jump scares; it’s about capturing the atmosphere, the tension, and the pure joy of getting lost in a classic horror flick. We are delighted to bring Griefville to Roblox with the best possible partners!”
Griefville: Survive the Nightmare is part of Roblox’s Game Fund program, which provides funding to developers to help them bring their experiences to the Roblox platform. The experience has already accumulated almost 95,000 visits since its launch on March 6, 2024. The experience was technically created March 1, 2024.
