Cleveland Clinic Uses Roblox to Highlight Importance of Mental Health
The Zen Quest Roblox experience features a series of mindfulness activities.
Medical center Cleveland Clinic is using Roblox to give people a “mental health break.” Its Zen Quest Roblox experience drops visitors into a Mindful Retreat and allows them to complete activities inspired by art therapy, positive affirmations, and breathing exercises, among other topics.
The Mindful Retreat features peaceful walking paths through a forest and park setting, and allows visitors to view artwork and learn information about music and art therapy. Two portals will also take users to different themed locations, each with their own activities.
Specifically, the Bubbly Bay area offers a meditative exercise that encourages users to focus on a red bubble as it slowly moves across the screen, while the Breathwork Meadow area features a breathing exercise and a trail full of positive affirmations.
As users explore each area and complete activities, they’ll earn experience points that will increase their overall level in the Roblox experience.
On the Cleveland Clinic Newsroom, Leopoldo Pozuelo, M.D., Center Director of Adult Behavioral Health at Cleveland Clinic, commented on the Zen Quest experience:
“We know young adults spend a lot of time with video games as entertainment. If we can meet them where they are and remind them of wellness behaviors, we see this as a good initial step in being proactive in mental health.”
In addition, Cleveland Clinic Project IV Manager, Halle Bishop, talked about how the experience will be used by the medical center going forward:
“Now that the game has launched, developers will collect data and explore a broader metaverse strategy and expansion opportunities, including potential for a free-standing version of the game that patients could access.”
Cleveland Clinic isn’t the first company to build a Roblox experience focused on health-related topics. For instance, in 2023, optical retailer LensCrafters launched its Eye Odyssey Roblox experience, which was designed to educate visitors about proper eye care habits.
